Join a winning, engaged and results-driven team that works in an inclusive, high-performance culture.

As a financial planner, your role is to build strong relationships with high-net-worth clients by providing top-quality advisory services. As someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and a commitment to doing good work, you know how to leverage your external and internal networks and your centres of influence, and you understand that growing a practice depends on building lasting relationships.

External clients –

As a financial planner, you proactively reach out to people who are not part of the Scotiabank network, presenting the unique value you can bring to their financial journey. Through constructive conversations and personalized advice, the goal is to demonstrate how informed financial planning can help clients clarify, pursue and achieve their financial goals, regardless of their starting point.

Internal clients –

As a financial planner, you play an essential role in deepening client relationships by targeting and reaching out to those who have had little interaction with the Bank. You proactively explore opportunities and maintain meaningful connections, which positions you as a trusted advisor. By building strong internal partnerships across the branch network, you ensure seamless access to the full range of Scotiabank resources, showcasing the best of the Bank in every client interaction.

As a financial planner, you:

  • Have a keen sense of responsibility and strong determination, and understand that your clients are your most valuable asset. You prioritize providing personalized investment and financial planning advice that helps clients achieve their unique financial goals with confidence.
  • Enjoy the flexibility to meet with clients in the field, on a schedule that suits both you and them.
  • Recognize the benefits, both for your practice and for your clients, of working in Scotiabank's collaborative environment.

Drawing on a comprehensive financial planning framework, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Growing investment sales and securing new clients in accordance with core sales principles and regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Creating business development opportunities with clients in your assigned market area.
  • Embracing the inclusive, high-performance culture of a winning, engaged and results-driven team.

Is this role for you? In this position, you will need to:

Foster the development and sustainable growth of exclusive investment solutions in your assigned market area by focusing on the following:

  • Business development – Implement business development plans with current and prospective affluent clients. Identify opportunities to increase investments and facilitate the implementation of an investment solution or introductions to the appropriate partners.
  • Client-focused approach – Offer client-centred investment solutions based on a financial planning framework that follows the key principles of sales. Use outbound communications and cold calls to get closer to clients and remain their first choice for future opportunities. Conduct a free needs analysis based on several financial statements, including those of competitors.
  • Community engagement – Take part in professional events and activities of groups and associations in your region. Look for opportunities to lead community information sessions and financial seminars in order to develop and expand your network and acquire new clients. Establish and maintain a strong presence in your assigned market area. Network with investment experts and take part in external marketing activities with a well-managed limited budget.

Do you have what it takes to succeed in this role? We would be happy to work with you if you meet the following criteria:

  • Three years of experience in financial planning and selling investment products.
  • A mutual fund sales licence and a valid registration meeting the licensing requirements of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (courses on mutual funds or securities trading in Canada).
  • The IPF designation in Quebec.
  • Proven skills in networking, client acquisition and interpersonal relations; experience in establishing and maintaining centres of influence.
  • A results orientation, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the autonomy and motivation to excel within a large team, showing initiative with minimal supervision.
  • In-depth knowledge of competitors' offerings, market trends, the economic environment and the regulatory framework.
  • A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle to meet clients and prospect within your assigned market area.

What's in it for you?

  • An entrepreneurial culture in which you can advance your career.
  • A dynamic and flexible work environment where you can choose your own schedule and meet clients at the place and time that suit them best.
  • A compensation structure that rewards growth and retention of your client base.
  • Access to leading resources, including specialized marketing support, powerful mobile technology, a top-tier client relationship management tool, a portfolio and financial planning software, to help you grow.
  • The ability to build long-term relationships with clients by providing exceptional advisory services.
  • A partnership with Scotiabank's retail branches and access to Scotia Global Asset Management to deliver an unmatched client experience.
  • A work culture focused on diversity, respect and inclusion.
